Cubbage
Producer of all ABC Enterprises promotions.
GMcG: So how long in the industry Timbo? TC: I started at the ABC mailroom in 1974, but only lasted one year. Then I travelled for three years, only to end up at the ABC in 1979 working as a Grams Op (Sound effects). I loved it actually. Radio dramas, television, all live of course. GMcG: Where to from there? TC: I went to transmission and worked there for seven years. And from there I moved into the sports department. I directed the live Saturday Afternoon Sport show for a few years. GMcG: What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most? TC: Having an idea and seeing it through to the end of the process. And I like to the people I work with. GMcG: Any production equipment you like in particular? TC: I like Smoke because of its flexibility. It has everything I need in one box. You can make some great graphics. I also like Pro-Tools. GMcG: What are your thoughts on the current state of the industry? TC: I think there's a good future ahead, but we need to get investment in the industry. We have the creative ideas, the production people and the facilities to make good television, we just need the money. I also think we need to get over the reality programme phase, so we can get back into good story production. GMcG: Do you think we'll be making things the same way in twenty years, delivered by the same mediums? TC: Yes, we'll make things much the same way. I think people will still enjoy the television experience. I think 'free to air' will be around for sure, but cable will be a major player. I reckon that some of the promos I make will be delivered directly to targeted customers via email and mobile phones. GMcG: What's your favourite television moment? TC: On my last day at the ABC I was working in transmission. I actually fell asleep and woke up to find all the monitors in black and master control screaming down the talkback! It seems we'd been off air for fifteen minutes, but I did enjoy the sleep. I think master did as well. GMcG: What has been your worst moment? TC: When I was in the mailroom at the ABC, one of the jobs was to distribute school booklets. There would be a warehouse full of them. We used to make a small section in the middle where you could have a nap and be out of site. But one day, the walls collapsed in on me and I was pinned under tonnes of booklets. I actually thought I was going to die! The other guys eventually got me out though. Yeah, not a good moment. GMcG: Seems all your moments involve sleep? TC: Don't spread it around.
Tim currently creates ABC Enterprises promos and has done for over a decade. We at Hullabaloo think he's a top bloke!
