Virtual Audio Post goes Infobreak

Infobreak, a infomercial production company has started using Virtual Audio Post.  Infobreak are based in Manly but needed to get a bad location recording fixed quickly.  Here's how it worked.

Editor for Infobreak, Tibor Komlos uploaded his edited file which was two minutes long to our ftp site.  (don't understand ftp? Go here).  That took about twenty minutes for the 22meg file.  While it was uploading, he went back to editing.  We downloaded it in just seven minutes (downloading is faster than uploading).  This soundtrack had many problems, level jumps, completely different sounding audio on the same person from shot to shot, and some splats or spikes.

It took one hour to fix it up.  Then twenty minutes later it was back on our ftp site.  Tibor downloaded the file and placed it back in to the edit.  The whole process took about two hours.

Tibor said, "Nice operation, big improvement in audio quality".

Have a listen to a 'before' audio.  This was actually an interview where one microphone didn't work.  Most people would just re-record the interview, however that is not always possible.  So have a listen to what we had to work with.

AS you heard, the location audio suffered from hardly any level, room air-conditioning noise and reverb. It's not easy to fix and the result is never going to be perfect, but since the talent was not available to re-shoot, there was no choice. We applied noise reduction, compression and EQ to try to get as much as possible out of the original audio. As I said, it's not perfect, but at least you can hear the voice and understand what she says.

Virtual Audio Post is like having an audio post suite in the next room.
