Relaxation Tips

We all live with a certain amount of stress. Too much stress can have long lasting effects on your health. The single most important thing you can do is try to reduce the stressors in your life. We can't remove all stress, but are you expecting too much of yourself?  Take stock, take action, make a change.

Here's a few tips to help you get started.  We're just city dwellers like you, but we've tried some of these and they do work.

1. Regular exercise is a proven stress reliever.  Check out our Ezywalk CD.  I can vouch for it.  It does work!

2. Give yourself a regular treat.  This could be seeing a movie, dinning out, seeing a show.

3. Try meditation.  A proven winner.

4. Try some relaxation music in a quiet place.

5. Keep a notebook with you so you can list things you have to do.  Check the list now & then and cross off the things that don't matter or are done.  You'll start to feel more in control of your life.

6. Do what you love.  A hobby, a passion, whatever.  Just make time to do it.

7. Spend time with your family and friends.  This is the most important one of all.

If you can do just a few of these every now and then, you'll make a good start.  Once you start to feel the benefits, it's not so hard to make the time to look after yourself.

You can also try this relaxation exercise.

Deep Breathing.

Begin by breathing through your nostrils. Inhale for five counts, silently saying the word "in". Concentrate on breathing deeply. Fill your lower abdomen with air.

To the count of five, exhale slowly, silently saying the word "out" as you let the air escape through pursed lips.
Repeat this exercise for about two minutes. Gradually you will be able to build up to ten counts or higher. Increase your relaxation by imagining a peaceful scene or breathing in fresh air or pleasant smells.

This is not only good for relieving stress, but also fantastic for general health.

We'll have some more exercises and info next month.
